Summer At Chalet Berrier

Summer At Chalet Berrier

There is a huge network of spectacular walking and mountain biking which you can access from the chalet door. There is walking at all levels without ever needing to use the car. However, by driving very short distances you can access some spectacular areas of the Aravis Range.

In Petit Bornand the Plateau de Gilliers is a must for anyone with an interest in WW2 resistance. The Col de Cenise is an equal must for anyone wanting to experience spectacular Alpine flora.

The Col de Colombier is a 5 minute drive – it is one of the classic routes of the Tour de France and the race passes over it most years.
Rosay gondola (from Le Grand Bornand) and Mont Lachat chairlift (from Chiniallon) operate during summer and are a great way for both pedestrians and cyclists to gain height in the mountains. The view from the top of Mont Lachat is exceptional.

There are many kms of mountain biking trails and guides can be booked if required. There are ‘via ferrata’ routes for those wanting to climb with a difference. Anyone wanting climbing or alpine guides can do so by contacting the tourist office.

Other Summer Activities

Fishing, basketball, table tennis, miniature golf and archery are all available at the recreational area in Le Grand Bornand. There is also an acrobatic centre with trampoline courses and lessons from the age of 3 years.

For those seeking a greater adventure the area is a centre for paragliding with first flights, lessons and courses all bookable. Hot air ballooning is also on offer.

There are guided farm visits including a visit to a restored Savoyard farm to learn about daily life in the area at the beginning of the 20th century. Pony trekking is also available ranging from a one-hour ramble to a two-day trek to a mountain refuge.

Particularly for Children

There is a day nursery in Le Grand Bornand and the Arlequin club for 3-12 year olds during July and August. Children can be booked in for half days, full days or a full week. There are games, sports , art clubs competitions and mini camps.

In August there is the annual international Children’s festival ‘Au Bonheur des Mories’ – a week long festival of puppet shows , theatre, circus acts, mime and juggling. There are workshops and events for children of all ages and it finishes with a huge firework display and street party on the Friday night
